How you as a Catholic can study the Bible.
using LEAP OF FAITH .
Go to Leap of Faith (www.faithleap.org) and click on the left side frame on the American Bible (http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/bible/index.htm). It will take you to the National Conference of Catholic Bishops and their site on the New American Bible.
Click on the Book you want to study. For example, let us assume that you are interested in the Acts of the Apostles. Click on Acts (http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/bible/index.htm#acts), and proceed to click and read the introduction (http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/bible/acts/intro.htm).
You can highlight the article and press control c in your computer and it will copy it to your clipboard. Open Word in your computer or whatever other word processor you may have and at the cursor press control v, the material will paste to your document and you will be able to print or save the article for future reading. Notice that if you were to use it for other than personal use, you have to give reference to your source.
Go back to Acts (http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/bible/index.htm#acts), and click on chapter one verse one, read it and click on the reference number attached to the first verse and it will give you background information on the meaning of the verse.

In the first book, Theophilus, I dealt with all that Jesus did and taught

until the day he was taken up, after giving instructions through the holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.
The footnote reads:
[1-26] This introductory material (Acts 1:1-2) connects Acts with the Gospel of Luke, shows that the apostles were instructed by the risen Jesus (Acts 1:3-5), points out that the parousia or second coming in glory of Jesus will occur as certainly as his ascension occurred (Acts 1:6-11), and lists the members of the Twelve, stressing their role as a body of divinely mandated witnesses to his life, teaching, and resurrection (Acts 1:12-26).
I recommend the New American Bible as my Catholic Bible of choice. The language is easy to understand and the translation is originally done from the Greek and Hebrew texts so the fidelity to the original version is very good.
Before you begin studying the Bible, please read the preface to the New American Bible. (http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/bible/prefaceold.htm)
The Navarre Bible Commentaries on the Acts of the Apostles is excellent and you can obtain it at any major Catholic bookstore. We have used for many Years the Little Rock Bible Study series complemented by the Navarre Commentaries.
Once you begin studying the Holy Bible your life will change and improve in ways that you may think impossible.
May the Lord bless you in you endeavor, keep us in your prayers and let us know if we can be of further help.
God bless you.
