How can I resist temptation and stand strong against sin?
Remember that with God’s help everything is possible.
If God is for us, who can be against us?
Rom 8:31
We are all sinners and prompt to sin, but as Romans 5:8 says:
…God demonstrates his own love for us in this:
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Jesus died for you and me, and all of us.
In John 3:16, we read:
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
There is no person free of temptation. Avoid the occasion of sin and immediately ask God for help when you feel weak. Make the sign of the cross with your fingers. Remember God’s LOVE for us, and that when we sin we are rejecting Him and His love.
In calling upon Jesus we remember Phil 2:10-11: “…that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
May Jesus be your guard against all evil, and He will help you remain pure and holy in the turmoil of life.
A simple “God help me” or to say “Jesus, I trust in you.” can supply the strength you need to avoid sin.
When Jesus left us to ascend to heaven, He sent the Holy Spirit to be with us. We are not alone.
The Sacraments in the holy Catholic Church supply us with that additional strength we need to battle temptation in this life. When we were baptized we became children of God.
By going to the sacrament of Penance, we are strengthen to avoid temptation and are given the spiritual blessing to stand up straight in the knowledge that Jesus did not leave us. He is present to us in the sacrament of Penance through the presence of the priest who represents His church on earth. The sins you confess to the priest, he cannot reveal to anyone, what you say remains there. You are talking in the presence of the priest to God, and asking God for forgiveness and the priest representing the church give you the absolution. “Go and sin no more.” To those of us who have experience forgiveness, there is the proof that it works. The graces that come from confession are many. Try it.
I recommend you go to confession.
As for myself, the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, is my strength. To go to daily mass and place my worries in His care is my delight.
Go to mass and at the time of consecration pray to the Lord: “Lord, help me. Without you, I am nothing.” Upon receiving Him at communion, pray to Him and give Him all your worries and cares.
Give Jesus your life and it will blossom in ways that would have been impossible otherwise.
Keep your eyes on Jesus. Make Him, Lord of your life.
Remember, Jesus calls us to holiness and sainthood. Pray, pray, pray…
